Official Calls For Riverside, 12 Other Counties To Secede From California « CBS Los Angeles.

First thought: If anyone secedes, I would have thought Texas would do it first.  I know we talk about it more, but it’s really interesting to hear another state, even one as far-removed from reality as California, say they need their independence as well.  And it’s only part of a state, at that.

We’ll see if anything comes of this.  (Nothing will.)

There’s a Liberal group, similarly led by a state politician, in southern Arizona that wants to do the same thing.

I just don’t understand the reasoning behind censorship like this unless you’re trying to produce this nanny-state where no one is able to form their own opinions about anything …..

They’re not seceding from the Union, they’re seceding from California, splitting California into two States. It’d be like the Dakotas or Carolinas: North California and South California. It has nothing to do with removing itself from the country entirely, as would be the case of Texas, but rather a way to cut taxes and help both [potential] states’ economies. It’s a good idea, but not nearly as controversial as people are making it sound. Gil Duran’s comparison to the secession movements of the 1860s is pretty dumb, actually.

That does make more sense. I guess that’s my fault for hearing the word ‘secession’ and jumping to all kinds of conclusions.

Thoughts?
